Abstract

Over the years, there have been numerous publications on the treatment of Achilles tendon ruptures in animal experiments. The studies have focused on the comparison between surgical and purely immobilizing treatment of Achilles tendon ruptures. Since the 1980s, the additional use of fibrin adhesives and autologous Achilles tendon prostheses to augment the tendons has been subject to scientific investigation.
