Abstract

Background and Aims: Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5), the pattern recognition receptor for bacterial flagellin, plays an important role in innate immunity. We recently identified TLR4, the receptor for lipopolysaccharide, as a susceptibility gene for Crohn's disease (CD) (Inflamm Bowel Dis 2005;11:645–52). We therefore investigated the role of TLR5 variants on susceptibility and phenotype of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
