Abstract

UMPER’s KNEE” is a term commonly used to describe anterior knee pain. Possible causes of anterior knee pain include patellofemoral syndrome, traction apophysitis (Osgood-Schlatter’s and Siding-Larsen-Johnnson’s syndromes) and patellar or quadriceps tendinoses. For the purpose of this report, we will deal with patellar tendinopathy, which commonly affects athletes engaged in jumping sports, such as basketball and volleyball. We will define and discuss patellar tendi nopathy, present the literature supporting the use of eccentric muscle actions, and then discuss activities for inclusion within a functional patellar tendinopathy rehabilitation program.
