Abstract
The spectral properties in organic solvents, solid polymer film and nematic liquid crystal (LC) of new benzanthrone dyes substituted with azomethine derivative groups at position 3 and their utility for liquid crystal displays of the guest-host type are reported. In particular, the effect of substitutes upon the phase transition and orientational order of LC in surface stabilized display cells is discussed.
