Abstract

A study was made of the interaction of the polymethacrylate derivatives of nucleic acid bases, particularly the effect of methylation of nucleic acid bases in the polymers. One of the complementary polymers is a copolymer containing uracil and 3-methyluracil units, and the other, a copolymer containing adenine and N6-methyladenine units. For the interaction of these copolymers, an optimum content of the methylated nucleic acid base unit in the copolymer was found. This was explained by opposite factors: an inhibition of hydrogen bonding and increase in compatibility or mutual solubility of two kinds of the copolymers.
