Abstract

Full experimental details are given for the oxidation of organic substrates by a variety of pentavalent organobismuth reagents. The remarkable selectivity of these reagents, particularly for oxidation of the allylic OH group under mild conditions, is exemplified. The mechanisms of alcohol oxidation and glycol cleavage are discussed.
