Abstract
The etiology of hydronephrosis of pregnancy has not been completely elucidated. The rhesus monkey has been used as the test animal since hydronephrosis of pregnancy occurs naturally in the primate as opposed to other mammals (Roberts and Wolf, 1971). The fact that the pelvic ureter is usually normal suggests that hydronephrosis is due to obstruction at the pelvic brim by the gravid uterus.
