The virulence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis,as well as its coexistence with the host cells, depend on the complex expression regulation of multiple genes. Sigma factors play an important role in the regulation of these genes. This paper summarizes the latest studies about the regulation of sigma factors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and the significance of these studies in the prevention and therapy of pulmonary tuberculosis.
