Abstract

SUMMARYField beans (Vicia faba) were fumigated with methyl bromide at 18°C to control stem eelworm (Ditylenchus dipsaci (Kühn) Filipjev). Dosages of up to 2,000 mg.hr/l. failed to kill all the eelworms in their most resistant condition and produced a small but significant decrease in the percentage of normally germinating seeds, while a dosage sufficient to give a complete kill of eelworms caused a substantial decrease in germination. Nevertheless, standard commercial treatment of 1,000 mg.hr/l. should give a good control under normal conditions.
