Abstract
The surface of fumed silica nanoparticles can react with various organic groups. Fumed-silica can be functionalized by the reaction of (3-Chloropropyl)trimethoxysilane (CPTMS) to yield Fumed-Si-Pr-Cl, followed by the treatment with piperazine to obtain Fumed-Si-Pr-Pi, which was applied to detect metal ions. The optical activity of Fumed-Si-Pr-Pi was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. It was demonstrated that among all different cations, the Ag+ ions quenched the PL of the Fumed-Si-Pr-Pi more strongly than other heavy metals, with LOD 5.43 × 10−7 M.
