Introduction

T Larner Consultant Urologist A Symes Consultant Urologist Urology Department, Princess Royal Hospital, Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust, Haywards Heath, UK. Participation in research is mandatory for urology higher trainees. The South Thames Regional Urology Meeting (STRM) is a biannual regional conference involving the South London and Kent, Surrey and Sussex deaneries and provides an opportunity for trainees to present audit and research work. Scientific meetings provide a forum for the dissemination of developments in research and practice. The natural progression of abstracts presented at meetings is to publish in a scientific journal as a full-text article. The conversion rate of presentations to publication may be an indicator of the scientific value of a meeting. The publication rates of presentations at national and international meetings have been published, and range between 37.8% and 47.3%.2,3,4. The aim of this study was to assess publication rates for presentations at the STRM. Secondary aims were to evaluate factors associated with publication success
