Abstract

This paper presents a test of an aluminum stabilized NbTi/Cu superconductor, which is used to wind the Beijing Spectrometer III (BESIII) superconducting solenoid magnet (SSM). Three types of short samples were tested: five original samples, a side bent sample and three welding samples. The test system includes a 4 T background coil, 7000 A vapor cooled current leads, 200 A vapor cooled current leads, power supplies, data acquiring system, liquid helium dewar and so on. The test focuses on the critical current of the bent samples and the resistance of the welding samples. Results show good performance of the superconductor, and validate the feasibility of the welding and bending techniques.
