Abstract

This paper proposes a fast residual quad tree (RQT) process to reduce encoding time of high efficiency video coding (HEVC). The proposed algorithm consists of PU decision part and full-depth RQT part. At the PU decision part, the zero-depth of RQT is employed to select the best PU mode. For a full-depth RQT part, the RQT process with full-depth is performed for the best PU. Experimental results on HM 12.0 show that the proposed algorithm reduces 14.50% of encoding time on average while the average BD-rate loss is 0.85% under HEVC common test conditions.
