Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the vigour and breadth of AFP T cell responses in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and chronic HCV infection. In order to determine the CD8+ T cell responses in the context of diverse HLA class I alleles, we performed a comprehensive analysis by using a panel of overlapping peptides spanning the whole alpha-fetoprotein and analyzed the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and intrahepatic lymphocytes from a cohort of 14 patients with chronic hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection and 41 patients suffering from HCC and the PBMCs of 10 healthy donors by an enzyme-linked immunospot assay followed by peptide specific intracellular interferon-gamma staining.
