Abstract

1. 1. The fuel reserves, carbohydrates and lipids of muscles of some molluscs have been studied. 2. 2. It has been observed that the pallial muscles of the gastropods and bivalves function as glycogen depots. 3. 3. The grey (fast) and white (slow) muscles of the adductors of Lamellidens corrianus exhibit distinct variations in the distribution pattern of their fuel reserves. These muscles are physiologically comparable to the white and red muscle fibres of vertebrates. 4. 4. Paradoxically the cephalopod muscles possess only very low concentrations of glycogen. 5. 5. The distribution pattern of lipids in the muscles of molluscs, other than the adductors, did not show any significant variation.
