Abstract

1. In all countries a tendency toward increase in use of fuel and energy has been in effect for a long time, plus an increase in the share of petroleum products in fuel-energy balance. 2. Fuel-energy resources are increasing very rapidly in the countries of Western Europe and Japan, and the share of petroleum products in them as well; these countries do not have supplies of their own petroleum at their disposal and they completely depend on importation of petroleum. 3. A continuous rise in total consumption of petroleum products and light fuels is observed in all countries. This process is occurring fastest in the countries of Western Europe and Japan. In these same countries a significantly faster increase in use of diesel fuel is observed (up to 30%). 4. The relative share of gasoline use in the USA exceeds two-fold the share of gasoline use in Western Europe or Japan (40 and 20%, respectively). The share of use of automotive diesel fuel in all the world has become stabilized, and amounts to about 8%.
