Abstract

Genome-wide association studies revealed that variants within FTO (fat-mass- and obesity-associated) are strongly associated with obesity susceptibility. A recent study in Nature Genetics (Church etal., 2010) demonstrates that mice overexpressing fto exhibit a dose-dependent increase in body weight, confirming a role for FTO in the development of obesity.
