Abstract

AbstractA steady‐state system involving the photolysis of NO2 in an excess of I2 as a source of IO radicals has been used to study the reaction IO + DMS in 760 Torr N2 at 296 K. IO radicals were found to react rapidly with DMS, one molecule of DMSO being produced for each molecule of DMS consumed. Numerical analysis of the experimental results yielded a rate constant of (3.0 ± 1.5) × 10−11 cm3 s−1 for the reaction IO + DMS → DMSO + I.
