Abstract

FT-i.r. transmittance studies carried out on thin (50-100 ~m thick) wood slivers and on powdered wood samples (as KBr disks) have been used to monitor the reaction of wood with (a) alkyl isocyanates and (b) chromium(III) complexes. Both reagents produce a chemically bound hydrophobic surface layer on wood.
