Abstract

On doping with iodine, Langmuir-Blodgett films containing multilayers of the thioester derivative of tetrathiafulvalence become conducting. The responsible charge transfer process and its effect on the electronic redistribution have been monitored using infrared attenuated total reflection spectroscopy. It is found that certain infrared inactive modes are activated by vibronic coupling, and that associated electronic changes lead to significant delocalisation within the TTF ring system.
