Abstract
The frequency shifts of several IR bands at strains from 1% to 20% were analysed. The pure vibrations of benzene ring and the conformation sensitive modes behave differently over the entire deformation range. The obtained results are compared with the band shifts observed in aPS film on heating and under high pressure. The molecular mechanism of deformation of glassy polymer is discussed
