Abstract

In the present investigation, four rare earth oxalates with different electronic structure [f0(La, Y),f7(Gd) andf14(Lu)] were prepared. Their Fourier transform far- and mid-infrared spectra were examined with a Nicolet 7199 B spectrometer in a range from 100–4000 cm−1. Normal vibrational analysis of La, Gd, Lu and Y oxalate hydrates were carried out according to the FT-IR results. The assignment of vibrational frequencies is made on the basis of normal coordinate analysis. The average deviations of 30 frequencies of the four oxalates between the calculated and the experimental values are La=4.49, Gd=4.04, Lu=4.63 and Y=4.98 cm−1, respectively.
