Abstract

A series of fluoride glasses of composition (20-x) MgO xLiF 40Bi2O340B2O3with x=0 to 20 mole%, have been prepared by conventional melt quench method. Optical absorption, XRD, FT-IR and Raman Spectra and DTA measurements were carried out on these glasses. Amorphous nature of these glasses has been confirmed from their XRD profiles. The measured FT-IR and Raman spectra have exhibited the Stretching vibrations of Bi–O bonds in strongly distorted BiO6 octahedral units, B–O–B bonds bending vibrations
