Abstract

A multi-layers frequency selective surface (FSS) with meta-material is presented for reducing the mutual coupling in a MIMO antenna array, where the FSS elements are realized by using the periodic split ring resonators (SSRs). The presented FSS with a meta-material are used as a suspended layer which is set over the MIMO antenna array. As for the meta-material with negative permeability, it is considered to filter out the electromagnetic wave propagation from the adjacent antenna element. As a result, the isolation between the MIMO antenna elements have been enhanced by introducing the proposed FSS and meta-material suspending layers over the MIMO antenna array, and about 20dB mutual coupling reduction has been achieved.
