Abstract

Background: Secondary amenorrhea due to a high FSH and low estradiol is an unusual diagnosis in young women. Low AMH is consistent with a diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency; however, when AMH is normal, other etiologies should be considered. Several inactivating mutations of the FSH receptor have been described as the cause of primary amenorrhea, but this is usually not a cause of secondary amenorrhea.
