It turns a dull ivory hue just before hatching, and the embryo's crimson eyespots are evident. McDaniel spider mite eggs and two spotted spider mite eggs are indistinguishable. The estimate of mites per leaf is calculated by dividing the total number of mites on the plate by the number of leaves brushed onto that plate
