Abstract

In this paper, an attempt has been made to implement the recent soft computing approach of fruit fly optimization algorithm (FFOA) based two-degree-of-freedom PID (2DOFPID) for the study of load frequency control (LFC). Hydro-Thermal units incorporated dual area realistic system (HTDARS) are chosen as investigative models and analysis is carried out by laying area-1 with 10 % step load disturbance (10%SLD). Fine-tuning of 2DOFPID parameters is undergone with respective to the index of integral time square error (ITSE). However, the sovereignty of the presented FFOA soft computing approach is revealed with other mechanisms that are available in the literature. Further, the HVDC line has been laid with an AC line to get the system dynamical performance enhancement. Finally, HTDARS is subjugated with different loadings to test the robustness of 2DOFPID based on the FFOA technique.
