Abstract

Severe frostbite injury can lead to tissue loss. In frostbitten hands, the thumbs are usually spared because they are frequently clenched and insulated within a tight fist. Clinical exam alone can underestimate the extent of tissue damage. Three-phase bone scan imaging is useful in demonstrating the extent of soft tissue and bone devitalization, and can aid in managing these cases.
