Abstract

G-rich DNA structures are of great importance, notably in the telomeric region where G-quadruplex DNA plays a key role in the development of cancer. In their Full Paper on page 12730 ff., E. Defrancq, B. Elias et al., report photo-oxidant iridium(III) complexes that can target these DNA structures. As shown on this artwork, the iridium complex is able to trigger an electron transfer with guanine upon light irradiation, with the consequences to increase the prevalence of 8-oxo-dG.
