Abstract

The integration of fluorescent BODIPY chromophores and photocleavable oxazine heterocycles within the same covalent skeleton results in the realization of molecules with photoswitchable fluorescence. The photochemical and photophysical properties of these compounds can be engineered to enable the monitoring of dynamics events in live embryos, the encoding of optical signals in live nematodes, the optical writing of fluorescent patterns and the imaging of live cells with sub-diffraction resolution.
