Carvalho is a postdoctoral fellow and policy research associate at the Woods Hole Research Center (WHRC), Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Her work focuses on the Amazon, environmental policy, climate change, and grassroots development. She has authored several articles on these topics. Daniel Nepstad is a senior scientist at WHRC and visiting scientist at the Institute de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia (IPAM), Belém, Brazil, where he researches tropical ecology and modeling the ecological impacts of Amazon development. He also studies climate-forest interactions and the impact of fire on Amazon forests. David McGrath is a researcher at WHRC and a professor at the Federal University of Pará, Belém, Brazil. His work centers on community-based management of natural resources in the Brazilian Amazon. Maria del Carmen Vera Diaz is a researcher at IPAM, where she focuses on environmental economics, specifically the economic impacts of fire in the Amazon. Márcio Santilli is climate policy coordinator at IPAM. He works to create a dialog with government agencies and nongovernmental organizations in Brazil. He also researches Amazon development, grassroots participation, and the indigenous people of Brazil. Ana Cristina Barros is executive director of IPAM.
