Abstract

A number of suggestions have been made for the extension of the concepts of homogeneous catalysis into new areas. Its very nature creates difficulties: reactants, products, and catalysts are all in one phase. Hence the use of insoluble supports has been suggested, as has the use of two liquid phases along with phase transfer reagents. Furthermore, interest in homogeneous catalysts containing more than one metal has arisen partly because of an apparent analogy between these compounds and heterogeneous metal surfaces.
