Abstract

STP 1319 features cutting edge information on oxygen compatibility, safe systems designs, and modeling metallic and non metallic ignition and combustion processes. In addition to a major key note address on the need for safety codes in oxygen system piping, 34 comprehensive papers cover the following key areas: Failure Analysis and Safety-- papers highlight the importance of safety in oxygen systems, including two incident investigations Component Design and Development or Evaluation of Test Methods--Such issues as design methods to avoid hazards, and variables that impact the accurate replication of test results are explored in four papers. Ignition and Combustion of Metals--12 papers focus on areas including modeling aspects of the ignition and combustion process for metals in oxygen, characteristics of various alloys in oxygen, and reduced gravity tests for nine different metallic materials. Ignition and Combustion of Nonmetals--The compatibility of various polymers/elastomers in oxygen environments, new rail transport carriage material flammability studies and the results of a dynamic O-ring seal tester are among the concerns explored in 7 papers. A final miscellaneous section contains 5 papers ranging from the ignitibility of composites in liquid and gaseous oxygen to the development of data management systems for metallic and nonmetallic materials' compatibility in oxygen-enriched environments.
