Abstract

The Front Cover shows a personified molecule of an archetypal Pd(0) complex with a P,P′-chelating auxiliary phosphanylferrocene ligand indecisively selecting suitable substituents for its phosphine groups from an enormously wide range of aryl groups that differ in electronic properties. As has been shown many times, the appropriate choice of modifying substituents can markedly affect the coordination behavior and catalytic properties of phosphine ligands, just as the choice of fitting fashion accessories can influence the overall impression and appearance. The synthesis of electronically differentiated, semihomologous ferrocene diphosphane ligands and Pd(0) complexes thereof, detailed structural characterization of the prepared compounds by a combination of experimental and theoretical approaches, and an application of the Pd complexes as defined precatalysts in Pd-catalyzed C−H bond arylation of benzoxazole are described.
