Abstract
Four 2,2’-dipyridylindane-1,3-dione 2,2’-dimers with various substituents and orientations of the pyridine rings were synthesized. Detailed analyses found that only the chloro derivative affords 1D-channel-containing open-type structure. This study revealed how the atomic geometry around the pyridine N-atom affects the selective formation of the desired channel-containing structure, opening the door for further utilization of 1,3-indanedione dimers as new types of molecular crystalline host.
