Abstract

The front cover picture illustrates the highly reactive NHC-bound heterocyclic o-QDM intermediate derived from 3-furaldehyde, which effectively acts in the (4+2)-cycloaddition reaction leading to 6,7-dihydro-4H-furo[3,2-c]pyran-4-ones. This dearomative strategy utilizes the process of 1,4-elimination and is promoted by the N-heterocyclic carbene catalyst. The lightning symbolizes the concept of the aromaticity breaking as the key step for the functionalization of (hetero)aromatic aldehydes.
