Abstract

Fundamental research on liquid marble shells has been hindered due to their opaque and fuzzy appearance. X-ray computerized microtomography (CMT) can overcome this problem by generating an image with a visible interface between core liquid and the shell. The analysis with X-ray CMT reveals that the liquid marble shell thickness depends on the liquid marble preparation method and the volume. It is also found that the effective surface tension of liquid marbles decreases with increasing volume.
