Abstract

The Front Cover shows the aromatic interactions between the indole side-chain of peptide W3 and the peripheral aromatic site of acetylcholinesterase. W3 belongs to a series of derivatives designed to enhance inhibitory activity on cholinesterases by mutating aliphatic residues with aromatic ones. In individuals affected by Alzheimer′s disease, the brain experiences an exacerbated activity of cholinesterases and aggregation of β-amyloid peptide. W3 showed a great potential to counteract both these neurological abnormalities. Cover design by Ivan Sanchis and Dr. Álvaro Siano.
