Abstract
Quantum key distribution (QKD) is one of the most mature applications of single photon sources. The cover image shows on demand generation of single photons and their subsequent polarization encoding to prepare flying qubits in QKD. In article number 2200059, Çağlar Samaner and colleagues implement an isolated defect in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) as the efficient single photon source and control their polarization by an electro-optic modulator to demonstrate free-space B92 based QKD. These results suggest that optically active defects in hBN have a great potential for applications within quantum information technologies including practical QKD systems.
