Abstract

Amorphous metal organic framework (MOF) particles were created using isophthalic acid as the organic linker and holmium as the metal species. The resulting spherical MOF particles dispersed well in a solvent and exhibited excellent magnetic properties in response to magnets. Since holmium has almost no coloring, MOF particles obtained were colorless magnetic material, unlike conventional iron oxide particles. Taking advantage of the colorless property, the selective adsorption of dyes on MOF particles were easily visually confirmed by magnetically separating the particles.
