Abstract

Abstract Dealing with the case of German census law 1983, the German Federal Constitutional Court derived the constitutional right of each German citizen for “informational self-determination”. The Census 2011, applicable in all countries of the European Union, must comply with this right. The German census law 2011 requires the collection of more data about each citizen than the previous census in 1983. Moreover, recent developments such as the unique tax number, given for any German citizen, and the new digital identity card would permit easier re-identification than before.
