Abstract

Not long ago, I told the SEG Board that it was highly probable that a majority of our members were interpreters. I got a few blank stares and looks of incredulity. I wondered at that time what they thought all of those 20,000 members were doing (discounting students). What do the demographics of our Society indicate? Do we know? It was certainly true 20 or 30 years ago. Most would not include field data acquisition or data processing under interpretation. I checked the first issue of the new AAPG/SEG journal, Interpretation, and there was no definition. Maybe the editors thought it was self-evident … and maybe it is.
