Abstract
Pet peeve No. 1: In Houston, we have several area codes attached to our local telephone numbers. If you dial 1 in front of a number, you will receive a recorded voice telling you not to dial 1 and to redial the number. If you dial a long-distance number with an area code and you don't dial 1 to begin with, you will receive a recorded voice telling you that you need to dial 1 first and to redial the number! In both cases, the computer knows whether you have dialed a long-distance number or a local number. So why do you have to redial? Lazy software. Bah! Pet peeve No. 2: When there is a foul-up on some accounting problem, the person offering the service says, “It is the computer.” Bah … blaming malfunctioning computers. Bah … Pet peeve No. 3: You don't send me stuff I can print. If you have pet peeves, let me know. (Please, no marital issues.)
