The story of tropical medicine is bound up with the growth of the British Empire, and the formal discipline of clinical tropical medicine owes much to the work of pioneering British doctors, whose achievements are signified in the St Pancras Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the University of London's School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. This book provides an account of these personalities and events, and the scientific background.
