Abstract

From the Editor’s Desk Marquis Berrey Dear readers, you hold in your hands the final volume of Syllecta Classica. The editorial board has taken the decision to close the journal after the present issue. Declining numbers of submissions, reduced funding, and an increasingly stretched departmental faculty in recent years have made maintaining the high quality of publishing difficult. Yet the quality has remained high. The current editorial staff gratefully acknowledges the efforts of previous editors in building the reputation of the journal. Syllecta Classica has published numerous important papers in Classics over its thirty-one-year existence and, I believe, contributed substantially to the peer-reviewed ecosystem of open debate responsible for making advances in our field. Digital copies of all volumes of Syllecta Classica will remain available through Project Muse, to be read and used for future scholarship. In sincere appreciation for your continued readership over the years, Marquis Berrey, Editor [End Page i] Copyright © 2020 The University of Iowa
