Abstract

Bacterial infections are a well-known precipitating factor of organ failure/s and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) in patients with cirrhosis. In this post hoc analysis, Wong and coworkers aimed to evaluate regional differences in bacterial infection-related ACLF in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. They analysed data from 1,175 patients from across the world: 333 patients (28%) had ACLF at infection diagnosis, while 230 patients developed ACLF after infection diagnosis, resulting in an overall rate of bacterial infection induced-ACLF of 48%.
