Abstract

This special issue of Geocarto International is devoted to current research by members of the Remote Sensing Specialty Group (RSSG) of the Association of American Geographers (AAG), on the occasion of the centennial of the AAG. The AAG was founded in Philadelphia, in 1904. The RSSG is a subsidiary organization within the AAG, established in the late 1970s. The RSSG has a long history of association with Geocarto International, and this is the fourth special issue of that journal focused on the RSSG. Previous RSSG special issues were edited by Lee, Randolph and Lulla (Vol. 8, No. 4), Brown and Quattrochi (Vol. 12, No. 1) and Goodin and Jakubauskas (Vol. 13, No. 4). More information about the role of American Geographers in the RSSG and in remote sensing can be found in the paper by Lulla and others, in this issue.
