From Taylor to Transcendence: Towards Theory O of Management and Leadership

Abstract

Evolution of management thought over last hundred years can be classified in terms of four eras viz. ‘Scientific Management’ era (1900 …), Human side era (1960 …), Ethics & values era (1990 …) and Spirituality in Management era (2010 ...). This framework can be referred to as ‘Taylor to Transcendence’ – Science in Management (SIM) to Spirituality in Management (SIM). Theory O is based on the Vedantic idea of Oneness and represents the expansion in one’s circle of consciousness towards HOPE( Higher Order Purpose of Existence). It implies Management & Leadership through higher consciousness and thus takes us beyond existing theories of Management and Leadership.
