Abstract

Abstract Siderophores1 are natural Fe3+ carriers of microbial origin that are responsible for Fe3- uptake from the medium through the membrane into the cells interior. Although all these molecules bind Fe3+ by embedding it in an octahedral ion binding cavity, they do so by making use of different structural solutions such as macrocyclic, tripodal and linear ones.
