Abstract

In November 1946, the Committee on Professional Education of the American Public Health Association resolved that “a specialty board for Public Health physicians would further stimulate more adequate preparation of health officers for their responsibilities.” The 1949 founding of the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) was chronicled in a comprehensive history underscoring the specialty’s successes and persistent challenges. 1 Ring A.
